How it works
Already subscribed? Your keys are on your profile.
A little. The API returns JSON, so you need a short script or a tool that can call an API with a header. The quick start below is a single command, and an AI assistant can write the rest for you from these docs.
Your own lists, spreadsheets and tools, and sharing something you made with a credit and a link back. Reselling the data, republishing it in bulk, commercial products and training AI models are not included.
The API reads the live catalogue, so new reviews and score changes show up within minutes of being published.
No. Scores are editorial judgements, and API subscribers have no say over them.
They belong to other companies, so we cannot pass them on. Every title carries its IMDb and TMDB IDs, so you can join those ratings in yourself.
Your access runs to the end of the month you paid for. Your keys pause rather than disappear, and they work again if you rejoin.
Documentation
Create a key on your profile, then send it as a bearer token. This finds the ten least woke comedies released since 2020:
curl "https://isitwokeornot.com/api/v1/titles?genre=comedy&year_min=2020&type=movie&sort=woke_score&per_page=10" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer wor_your_key_here"Keep your key on a server or in a private script. Do not put it in a public web page or app, where anyone could copy it.
Lists published reviews, filtered and sorted. Every parameter is optional; unknown parameters are rejected so a typo never silently returns the whole catalogue.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| type | movie or tv. |
| genre | A genre slug such as comedy. Comma-separate up to 5 to require all of them (comedy, romance). See /genres. |
| min_score, max_score | Woke score range, 0-100, inclusive. |
| year_min, year_max | Release year range, inclusive. |
| q | Title name contains this text (case-insensitive, 2+ characters). |
| imdb_id | Look up by IMDb ID, e.g. tt1745960. |
| tmdb_id | Look up by TMDB ID. Movies and TV shows can share an ID, so combine it with type. |
| updated_since | Only titles whose review changed on or after this ISO 8601 date. Use it to keep a local copy in sync. |
| sort | release_date, woke_score, name or review_updated; prefix with - for descending. Default -release_date. |
| page | Page number, starting at 1. |
| per_page | Results per page, 1-100. Default 50. |

{ "data": [ { "slug": "action", "name": "Action", "title_count": <number> }, ... ] }Each account can make 1,000 requests a day (resetting at 00:00 UTC) and 60 a minute, shared across all of its keys. That is enough to download the whole catalogue many times a day. Every response carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset (a Unix timestamp) for the daily allowance.
Errors return JSON shaped as { "error": { "code": "...", "message": "..." } }.
| Status | Code | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | invalid_request | A parameter is unknown or has an invalid value. The message says which. |
| 401 | unauthorized | The key is missing, wrong, or revoked. |
| 403 | subscription_inactive | The key is valid but the subscription has lapsed. Renewing turns it back on. |
| 429 | rate_limited | Over the minute or daily limit. Wait for the number of seconds in Retry-After. |
| 500 | server_error | Something failed on our side. Retry after a short pause. |
The API covers what we create: scores, verdicts, score breakdowns and tags, plus the basic facts and IDs needed to use them. IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings, box office figures, posters, synopses and streaming availability belong to other companies, so we cannot pass them on. Use imdb_id or tmdb_id to join our scores with those sources yourself.
API access is for personal, non-commercial use. Please credit Is It Woke or Not? with a link when you share something built on our scores, and do not republish the data in bulk or use it to train AI models. The full rules are in our terms. For commercial licensing, get in touch.
