A Week Away follows Will Hawkins, a troubled orphan who has moved through many foster homes and committed several crimes. After he steals a police car, Will must choose between juvenile detention and a week at Camp Aweegaway, a Christian summer camp. Will feels out of place, but he makes friends with George, falls for Avery, and learns to trust people again. The film uses bright songs, camp contests, light jokes, and a clean teen romance to tell a hopeful story about faith, forgiveness, and finding a home.
Christian songs and camp worship give the film its main message. Will moves from hiding his past to telling the truth and accepting a new home. Avery faces grief over her mother, while George and Presley struggle to admit their feelings. The film treats kindness, forgiveness, faith, and belonging as answers to fear and loneliness.
