Be Somebody follows Jordan Jaye, a seventeen-year-old pop star who leaves his tour bus because fame has taken away his private life. He hides in a small California town and meets Emily Lowe, a high-school art student who delivers pizza and wants to attend art school in New York. Emily helps him stay hidden, while Jordan pushes her to show her street art and speak honestly with her parents. Their short trip moves from awkward friendship to first love, and the tone stays light, sweet, and hopeful.
Emily is independent, artistic, and willing to challenge pressure from her parents, her former friend, and her school. She guides Jordan in several scenes, but the film also gives him a clear problem and lets him change his own career choices. The story praises making art, choosing a real life over fame, and finding a voice instead of playing a part for other people. It also shows Emily living in a mixed-race family and falling for Jordan, but those details stay part of the romance rather than becoming a debate about race, gender, sexuality, or social policy. The main message is that both teens need honest friendships and time to decide who they want to be.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Be Somebody.

Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters discuss fame, art, family time, and being true to yourself. None of these talks pushes modern identity, DEI, or activist politics.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on a pop star escaping fame and an art student finding confidence. Their self-discovery is personal and creative, not a repeated message about race, gender, sexuality, or activist identity.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film questions a manager-controlled pop career, fame, and shallow popularity. Those problems stay personal and do not become a modern activist attack on Western institutions, family life, or social norms.

Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original teen romance with no established characters, franchise canon, or real historical figures to change.
0%
