Day Shift follows Bud Jablonski, a Los Angeles pool cleaner who secretly hunts vampires for money. His ex-wife plans to take their daughter to Florida unless he can quickly pay school fees, braces, and other bills. Bud must return to a vampire hunters’ union after breaking its rules, and a nervous office worker named Seth must watch him. The movie mixes family trouble with fast fights, bloody horror, jokes, and an exaggerated version of the San Fernando Valley.
The story treats Bud’s work as a rough working-class job, while the union treats vampire teeth like goods with rules, fees, and rewards. Bud and Seth begin as a field worker and a rule-keeping clerk, then learn to trust each other during the hunt. The main threat comes from Audrey, a vampire real-estate developer who wants to rebuild vampire power through new homes and a daylight formula. Her housing plan can look like a small joke about land and power, but the film keeps the idea inside its fantasy plot instead of turning it into a current political message.
