Dog Days is a warm comedy set in Los Angeles during one summer. The film follows several people whose lives cross through their dogs. Elizabeth is a morning news anchor dealing with a breakup, while Tara works in a coffee shop and wants a more useful life. Garrett runs a struggling dog rescue, Dax hides his sister’s dog, Grace and Kurt prepare for their adopted daughter, and Walter searches for his lost dog with help from a teenage delivery boy.
Most of the film’s message is about kindness, responsibility, adoption, family, and the comfort pets can bring. Tara finds purpose by helping Garrett save his rescue center, and Elizabeth slowly opens up to Jimmy after a painful relationship. The story gives women important jobs and lets Tara lead the fundraiser, but it does not build that into a broad political message. The film also uses brief jokes about men, gender confusion, and same-sex attraction.

0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The script includes ordinary jokes about men, work, dating, and relationships. It does not use activist, DEI, or identity-politics lines.

Identity-driven story themes
The film gives Tara a mild female empowerment arc. Tara says she does not want her college degree to go to waste. Tara later leads a fundraiser to save Garrett’s dog rescue. The movie treats this as a personal search for purpose, not as a larger identity or political message.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One Catholic News Service review warned that jokes about marriage, pregnancy, and children might put off some Catholic viewers. The review pointed to a pregnant woman blaming her husband and saying a man put the babies inside her. The concern stayed in one review, and the wider response did not show a clear backlash about woke content.
8%
Creator track record context
The cached creator records show low woke scores across the director, writers, casting director, and producers. The writers have mainly worked on mainstream films, with one immigrant-focused story in Matsueda’s past work. The director’s title-related interviews focus on family viewing, dogs, and kindness. The group shows no strong pattern of activist or identity-driven work.
