Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Eleanor the Great.
Woke representation / casting
The film has a very diverse group of main actors. Erin Kellyman plays Nina, who is written as a black, Jewish, and gay college student. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays her father Roger. Since a major character is explicitly gay, we must add points to this score under our rules. The casting choices show that the creators wanted to focus on diverse and intersectional identities.
41%
Woke political dialogue
The movie is mostly a gentle family drama. It does not have long political speeches or activist lectures. However, there is one clear moment where Nina tells Eleanor, "I'm gay." Eleanor gives a very supportive and politically correct response.

Identity-driven story themes
The main story is about grief, aging, and the big lie Eleanor tells to find friends. Still, the movie highlights modern identity themes through Nina. Nina is a young woman who is trying to understand herself while being black, Jewish, and gay. She wants to connect with her history and get over the death of her mother.
20%
Western institutional / cultural critique
There is no major activist attack on Western culture, capitalism, or traditional family life in this movie. Nina's father is very busy and Eleanor's daughter wants her mother to live in a nursing home. But these are normal family problems for a drama, not a systemic attack on society. The story actually ends with a positive message about family healing and the importance of telling the truth. We keep this score low at 15 because there are no woke institutional critiques.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is based on an original screenplay written by Tory Kamen. It does not adapt or change any pre-existing books, movies, or historical figures for political reasons.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Most public debate about the movie was about its sensitive subject, since Eleanor lies about surviving the Holocaust. There was no big anti-woke campaign against the film on social media. However, some traditional family guides did warn viewers about the scene where Nina says she is gay. Since these conservative complaints about political correctness were very small and isolated, we give this a low score of 15 to show the mild reaction.

The final score of 45 reflects this moderate progressive background.
