Bart Millard grows up in Greenville, Texas, with a father who hurts him and his mother. Bart turns to music after football and home life both fail him. As a young man, he joins the Christian band MercyMe while his father faces cancer. The story follows Bart as he chooses whether to stay angry or forgive, and it uses a serious but hopeful tone.
The movie makes Christian faith the answer to the family’s pain. Arthur changes after finding Jesus, and Bart’s forgiveness helps heal their broken bond. Bart’s girlfriend Shannon supports him while he learns to face his past and follow his musical gift. The story treats family, marriage, church, and Christian music as sources of help, and it says that grace can change a cruel man.
