Edee is a woman crushed by a terrible loss. She leaves city life and buys a remote cabin in the Rocky Mountains. She wants to live alone with no phone and no easy way out. The wild is beautiful but hard, and she nearly dies. A local hunter named Miguel and a nurse named Alawa save her. Miguel teaches her how to hunt, trap, and stay alive. The tone is quiet, sad, and slow, and it is about grief, survival, and human kindness.
The film’s main push is personal pain and healing, not modern activist politics. Viewers mainly see a private story of loss, solitude, and friendship. Miguel is a Mexican hunter who becomes her main helper, and Alawa is a native nurse who helps early on. Their roles support the rescue and kindness plot more than race-first messaging. Press talk from Robin Wright framed the movie as a hopeful answer to meanness in public life, but the movie itself stays on grief and care. A normal viewer looking for strong woke lectures, identity swaps, or DEI campaign themes would find very little of that on screen.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Land.
Woke representation / casting
Lead is Robin Wright. Co-lead Miguel is Mexican; Alawa is a native nurse in a short but visible rescue role. That diversity is easy to notice but serves a local Rockies rescue/kindness plot more than quota-style star casting or race-first messaging. Not a strong identity-casting pattern.
12%
Woke political dialogue
Talk is about grief, solitude, hunting, and healing. No clear activist speeches on race, gender theory, DEI, or systemic identity politics. Viewers hear personal pain, not campaign lines.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Story engine is loss of husband and son, retreat into nature, and learning to live again through friendship. Race, gender ideology, and queer identity do not drive the plot. A woman’s wilderness struggle is private trauma drama, not an identity manifesto.
5%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Leaving society is about private grief, not a lecture against capitalism, the church, “whiteness,” or traditional family as evil systems. Miguel is shown as a kind, capable man who helps, not as a punchline for toxic masculinity.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Original story, not a rewrite of known characters, canon, or real historical figures for identity politics.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
No clear right-leaning or anti-woke wave treating this film as woke/DEI propaganda. Coverage stayed on craft, grief, and pacing. Evidence of such complaints is essentially absent.
0%
Creator track record context
Key creatives mostly have low cached scores. Wright is mild; writers near zero; Farneth higher for gender-equity work. Team context is light liberal/craft-leaning, not a strong identity-politics pattern, and that matches the film’s soft kindness framing.
