Cecilia is a popular wellness influencer who lives behind a bright online smile. She meets her childhood best friend Emma again and joins Emma’s bachelorette weekend at a remote country house. The trip also brings Cecilia face to face with Alex, the girl who bullied her at school. Cecilia’s old pain returns, and the funny slasher story turns into a bloody revenge nightmare.
The movie puts female friendship, girlhood, bullying, self-worth, and online identity at the center of the story. Emma is engaged to Fran, and their same-sex relationship is a clear part of the group. The cast also presents a black female lead, an Asian woman, and a disabled male friend in important roles. These choices are visible, but the movie spends more time mocking influencer culture and fake wellness than arguing for political or identity causes.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Sissy.
Woke representation / casting
Cecilia is played by Aisha Dee, Tracey is played by Yerin Ha, Jamie is played by disabled actor Daniel Monks, and Emma is engaged to Fran. Cast member Lucy Barrett described the small group as several women of color, a gay couple, and a disabled man. The directors said Jamie’s cane was written for Monks and was not added to make a diversity point. The lineup creates a clear identity pattern in prominent roles, but it is not an overwhelming representation-first design.
50%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The movie uses therapy and self-help lines, but it does not push identity politics, DEI, or activist politics.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The story centers on a damaged bond between two women from childhood. Cecilia builds a new online identity around self-worth and wellness after years of bullying. The movie returns to female friendship, girlhood, trauma, and the idea that close female bonds can feel like first love. Emma and Fran are an engaged couple, but queer identity is not the main subject.
45%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie attacks influencer and wellness culture, but it does not target Christianity, family life, capitalism, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Sissy is an original story, so it does not rewrite a known character, adaptation, or historical event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No anti-woke backlash was found in the supplied X pass or in the wider search. Public discussion mainly debated whether Cecilia was a victim or a villain.
0%
Creator track record context
Kane Senes has no clear public record of activist or DEI work. Hannah Barlow often makes stories about female friendship, bullying, and pressure on women. A few producers have made feminist or queer projects, but those credits are background context. The team therefore shows a mild identity-related pattern rather than a strong activist record.
