The Package follows Sean, a nervous teenager who returns from Germany for a spring break camping trip with his friends in the Pacific Northwest. Jeremy, Sean’s goofy friend, cuts off his own penis by accident while drunk and playing with a knife. Sean, Donnie, Jeremy’s twin sister Becky, and Becky’s friend Sarah must find the missing body part and get it to a hospital before surgery is no longer possible. The movie uses gross jokes, crude sex talk, slapstick danger, and two simple romances to keep the rescue race moving.
The clearest woke element is the repeated gender pattern. Becky and Sarah join a trip first planned as a boys’ outing, take part in the dangerous search, and are shown as brave, sharp, and able to handle the chaos. The boys often look foolish, weak, or embarrassed, especially when the story jokes about male pride and the loss of Jeremy’s body part. This pattern is noticeable in the group scenes and romance plots, but the film does not turn it into a speech about politics, identity, or social justice.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Package.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The movie uses a mixed teen group in a present-day Pacific Northwest setting. The cast choices are not sold as a diversity or identity statement, and no role is changed to make a political point.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue is mostly crude jokes about sex, drinking, friendship, and romance. No repeated line pushes modern identity, DEI, or activist ideas.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The film adds Becky and Sarah to a camping trip first planned as a boys’ outing. The women join the dangerous search and are shown as brave, sharp, and able to handle the chaos. The men often look foolish, weak, or embarrassed, especially when the story jokes about male pride and the loss of Jeremy’s body part. The pattern returns through the action and romance plots, but it is played as crude comedy rather than a stated political message.
45%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The story mocks bad choices, cheating, drunken teens, random adults, and hospital mistakes. It does not build a modern critique of Western institutions, Christianity, family life, capitalism, or traditional social rules.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original teen comedy that began under the working title Eggplant Emoji. It does not adapt a known character, franchise, historical figure, or established canon.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One MovieWeb review said the film tried too hard to avoid complaints from social-justice viewers and felt limited by what it could say. One IMDb user review complained about a repeated girl-power pattern that makes the women right and the boys foolish. The separate X research found no anti-woke complaints, boycott talk, or review-bombing. The evidence is limited to isolated reviews, so this is a very low backlash score.

Creator track record context
The available creator record is mostly mainstream comedy. Jake Szymanski and writers Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows have low activist signals. Nicholas Weinstock has a stronger background in supporting writers from groups that get fewer chances, and Ben Stiller has some Democratic and social-issue activity. The other listed producers have mostly commercial entertainment records, so this context adds only a small signal.
