Sarah Blume is a mother raising her gifted son Miles with her husband John in a quiet American suburb. Miles begins hurting people, hiding cruel acts, and speaking words he should not know. Sarah learns that the soul of dead serial killer Edward Scarka may be taking control of her son. The movie uses dark homes, schools, clinics, and country roads to build a grim supernatural threat.
The story tests how far a parent will go to save a child who has become dangerous. Sarah leads the search for answers, while John first doubts the idea of a past life and later agrees that Miles needs to be placed under care. The plot follows Scarka's need to kill the one woman who escaped him, and Sarah faces a terrible choice between her son and an innocent survivor. The ending treats a mother's love as a weakness that the killer can use, which gives the horror a cruel family focus.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Prodigy.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The central family and main supporting roles form a normal cast for a present-day American setting. The film does not turn any casting choice into a representation message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters talk about Miles, family safety, treatment, and past lives. The film contains no political or activist speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Sarah's lead role centers on a mother's fear and sacrifice. Scarka targets women, but the story treats this as personal horror rather than identity politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. An expert says reincarnation is less accepted by Western minds. This short spiritual claim does not become a wider attack on Western life or its institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The story is original and does not revise a known character, source, or historical person.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No clear anti-woke or right-leaning complaint about the film's message was found. One review used “woke” in a joke about avoiding stock ethnic mystics, not as an agenda complaint.
0%
Creator track record context
Most cached creator scores sit between 6 and 15 and show little activist history. Producer Daniel Bekerman is the clear exception at 56 because he has backed DEI and support for Black, Indigenous, queer, and women filmmakers. The full group gives only mild supporting context.
