Weird: The Al Yankovic Story follows Al Yankovic from a boy who secretly loves the accordion to a famous singer who turns other people's songs into jokes. His strict father wants him to work at a factory, while Al wants a life built around music and his own strange ideas. The story moves through 1980s music clubs, recording rooms, celebrity parties, and wild trips that never follow real history. Daniel Radcliffe plays Al with a serious face, so the film feels like a loud, silly joke about a very serious music movie.
Al's biggest fight is the classic story of a young artist who wants his family and the world to accept his talent. The film turns Madonna into a dangerous love interest, Pablo Escobar into a fan who wants a private show, and famous songs into upside-down pieces of music history. Al's success grows when he stops copying the usual rules and trusts his odd style. The ending praises being yourself, but the film's main target is the fake drama and big emotions of music life stories.
