Winter Spring Summer or Fall follows Remi Aguilar, a gifted high school senior who has planned her life around Harvard and a future as a lawyer. She meets Barnes Hawthorne, a music-loving boy who plans to take a gap year because he does not know what comes next. The pair meet for one day in each season, and their romance grows, breaks, and comes back as school, parents, and distance test them. The film has a soft, wistful, and sometimes awkward tone, with a focus on first love and the fear of choosing the wrong future.
The film’s main message is that a young person should make room for love and personal choice instead of following a perfect plan made with family approval. Remi’s parents push Harvard and react badly when she suggests volunteering with Barnes in Costa Rica, so the family conflict questions pressure to follow a safe path. The movie also shows teen drinking, marijuana use, drunk driving, sex talk, and a brief party joke about dressing as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. These moments are small parts of a romance, and the story does not turn race, gender, sexuality, or politics into its main subject.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Winter Spring Summer or Fall.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Remi and her parents are shown as one family, and the film does not present their ethnic background as a diversity statement. The lead roles are not framed around identity.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters do not debate elections, laws, or social movements. A brief costume joke about Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a cultural reference, not political dialogue.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on first love, college plans, and growing up. It does not make race, gender, sexuality, or a social cause the reason for the conflict.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Remi’s parents pressure her to attend Harvard, but the conflict stays inside one family. The film does not attack Western institutions, faith, men, or traditional social rules as a wider system.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original teen romance and does not adapt a known character, book, or real event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public debate focused on the lead actor’s allegations, the film’s release delay, and its romantic plot. Clear anti-woke complaints about DEI, identity politics, or woke messaging were not found.
0%
Creator track record context
Tiffany Paulsen is 5/100 in the supplied creator context, and Dan Schoffer, Brad Krevoy, and Josh Shader are 0/100. David M. Wulf is 23/100 because he produced Call Jane, but his wider work does not show a steady pattern of modern identity politics. The team gives only mild creator track record context.
