Amr Waked

Personal context

Summary

Amr Waked is an Egyptian actor known internationally for Syriana, House of Saddam, Lucy, and Ramy. His work includes political dramas and stories shaped by revolution, state security, and Arab identity; he has said that The Father and the Foreigner deliberately challenged familiar Western depictions of Arabs. Outside acting, Waked joined the 2011 Egyptian protests and co-founded the National Front for Justice and Democracy, which advocated democracy, social justice, and a free political sphere. He later spoke publicly against Egypt’s political repression and called for the release of political prisoners; no public record of DEI, LGBTQ, or gender-advocacy positions is established.
