Archie Panjabi

Personal context

Summary

Archie Panjabi is a British actor known for East Is East, Bend It Like Beckham, Yasmin, and The Good Wife. Her work includes characters negotiating cultural and family expectations, while Kalinda Sharma, the Indian American investigator in The Good Wife, was notable for being both a woman of color and bisexual without her identity defining the role. Panjabi has said roles for actors of color were scarce when she began, that she pursued roles initially intended for white actors, and that she pushed back against Kalinda’s original “exotic” conception. She has also served as an ambassador for Rotary’s polio eradication campaign and Pratham USA’s education work; no public partisan campaigning or identity advocacy affiliations are on record.
