Personal context
Arinzé Kene is a British actor and playwright known for Misty, God’s Property and Good Dog, as well as screen roles in EastEnders and Been So Long. His plays explore black British life, racial stereotyping, policing, gentrification and who gets to tell particular stories. In interviews, he has called for more black leads on stage and screen, discussed the shortage of challenging roles for black actors, and described Misty as addressing the pressure on Black artists to speak for a whole race. He has also worn a Time’s Up badge publicly in support of the movement; no party campaigning or formal activist affiliation is on public record.
