Daveed Diggs

Personal context

Summary

Daveed Diggs is an actor, writer, rapper, and songwriter known for Hamilton, Blindspotting, black-ish, and his work with the experimental hip-hop group clipping. Race, black identity, policing, gentrification, and representation recur in his creative work. He has said Hamilton’s largely nonwhite cast helped present its immigrant story in a modern context, called for broader portrayals of Black life, and said that political silence in hip-hop was no longer an option amid Black Lives Matter. He has also spoken about police violence and reconsidered Hamilton in light of the protests; no public record of sustained organizational or party campaigning is established.
