Emilio Rivera

Personal context

Summary

Emilio Rivera is an American actor and stand-up comedian best known for playing Marcus Álvarez in Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C., with film roles including Traffic and Collateral. He has often played criminals and bikers, and has defended those roles against criticism that they reinforce Latino stereotypes, saying he draws on his own past and has made a good living playing “the bad guy.” He said the large Latino cast and crew on Mayans M.C. made him proud and that Latino performers had waited a long time for that opportunity. No public statements on partisan politics, DEI roles, or sustained political activism are on record.
