Gemma Arterton

Personal context

Summary

Gemma Arterton is an actor and producer known for work in film, television, and theatre, including The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Their Finest, and Funny Woman. Her screen work has often included complex female characters, and she co-founded Rebel Park Productions to create more opportunities for women in front of and behind the camera. She has repeatedly spoken about sexism, unequal pay, and women’s representation in the industry, supported the Time’s Up movement, and developed the Time’s Up-inspired short Leading Lady Parts. In 2024, she said she worries that the word “feminist” can exclude men, while continuing to describe equality as important.
