Person profile
Personal context
Harper Steele is an Emmy-winning comedy writer and producer who worked on Saturday Night Live for 13 years, including as head writer, and later served as creative director at Funny or Die. Her comedy writing includes sketch work and films such as Casa de mi Padre and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga; her public work increasingly addresses trans identity, friendship, and the effects of transphobia. She has described herself as “purple-haired woke,” said she is in a political arena as a trans woman, and framed Will & Harper as a way to encourage conversations about queer people. Steele has appeared as SF Pride’s 2025 grand marshal and executive-produced What Will I Become?, a documentary about transmasculine youth.
