Personal context

Summary

Isabella Gómez is a Colombian-American actor best known for playing Elena Alvarez in One Day at a Time, with later roles in Head of the Class, The Goldbergs, and short-lived television projects. Her public profile is closely associated with discussions of queer and Latinx representation: in interviews, she has said playing Elena made her more aware of the importance of representation and that she felt a responsibility to portray LGBTQ experiences accurately. She has also spoken about the lack of young lesbian characters and the value of showing Latinx and LGBTQ people as layered, non-stereotyped characters.
