Personal context
John Beasley was an American actor known for films including Rudy and The Apostle and television roles in Everwood and The Soul Man. He founded and ran the John Beasley Theater & Workshop in Omaha, producing August Wilson’s full cycle of plays about the African American experience and creating opportunities for local actors. Beasley said the theater aimed to showcase plays by and about minorities, expose Omaha audiences to black culture, and help bridge cultural divides. He also spoke publicly about limited opportunities for black actors in Omaha; no public statements on party politics, DEI, or other activist causes are on record.
