Karla Crome

Personal context

Summary

Karla Crome is a British writer and actor known for Misfits, Carnival Row and Am I Being Unreasonable?, and for creating the supernatural thriller Possession. Her writing includes Mush and Me, about a Jewish woman and a Muslim man who fall in love, and explores mixed-race identity, colonial history, Jamaican spirituality and belonging. She has spoken about Eurocentric beauty standards and wanting to tell more nuanced stories about being black and British and mixed race; she has described these themes as part of her characters’ lives rather than an agenda. No public party campaigning or activist-group affiliation is on record.
