Person profile
Personal context
Louise Brealey is an actor, writer, and journalist, best known for playing Molly Hooper in Sherlock and for her theatre work, including writing Pope Joan. Her public comments and writing repeatedly focus on women’s equality: she has called herself a feminist, urged more roles for women and more women writers and directors, and challenged the idea that women cannot be universal protagonists. In discussing Pope Joan, she said she wanted to explore basic questions of equality; she has also argued that feminism must include people of colour, transgender people, disabled people, and men and boys. No public party affiliation or campaign activity is on record.
