Maya Erskine

Personal context

Summary

Maya Erskine is an actor, writer, and producer known for co-creating and starring in PEN15 and for roles in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Blue Eye Samurai. Her work often draws on awkward adolescence and family life; PEN15 explores her experience growing up with a Japanese mother and white father. Erskine has said that limited, stereotyped roles for Asian actors motivated her to create work for herself, and she has described wanting more representation and authenticity in Hollywood. No public record of party campaigning, advocacy-group affiliations, or activism on causes beyond representation in entertainment is established.
