Michelle Gomez

Personal context

Summary

Michelle Gomez is a Scottish actor known for comedy and sharply drawn eccentric roles in The Book Group, Green Wing, and Bad Education, as well as Missy in Doctor Who and Lilith in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Her work often features flamboyant, unpredictable women; Gomez has described Missy and similar characters as a kind of mouthpiece for women who are “a little different.” In 2025, after being cast as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter audiobooks, she publicly stated that she stood with trans people and supported trans rights, and linked to a donation page for an LGBTQ health center. No public party campaigning or broader record of identity-focused activism is on record.
