Patrick Stewart

Personal context

Summary

Patrick Stewart is a British actor known for his Shakespearean stage work and for playing Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Charles Xavier in X-Men. His screen roles often explore diplomacy, fairness, and conflict over difference, though credits alone do not establish his personal views. Stewart has called himself a lifelong liberal activist, opposed Brexit, and has repeatedly campaigned against domestic violence, including as a patron of Refuge and through Amnesty International’s campaign on violence against women. He has also backed the right of a Christian bakery to refuse a pro-same-sex-marriage cake message, while saying that equality and free speech are both fundamental rights.
