Perry Blackshear

Personal context

Summary

Perry Blackshear is a New York-based independent filmmaker who writes, directs, edits, and often shoots his own work. His feature filmography includes They Look Like People, The Siren, and When I Consume You, with recurring themes of trauma, mental illness, addiction, loneliness, grief, and intensely subjective psychological experience. He favors small, collaborative productions and has repeatedly worked with a close ensemble of actors and crew, reflecting a DIY filmmaking ethos rather than a public ideological persona. The Siren includes a queer romantic relationship, but there is no strong public record of DEI advocacy, political activism, identity-based campaigning, or recurring representation-first statements. His interviews focus primarily on craft, emotional realism, genre experimentation, personal struggles, and the practical challenges of independent production.
