Summary

Philip Glenister is an English actor best known for playing DCI Gene Hunt in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, with other notable roles in State of Play, Cranford, and Outcast. His work spans crime, historical, and supernatural drama, while Gene Hunt’s blunt, politically incorrect persona became central to his public reputation. In interviews, Glenister described Hunt as a voice for people who felt unable to speak for fear of being accused of sexism, racism, or homophobia, and said audiences were reacting against political correctness. He has supported children’s hospices as a patron since 2008; no public identity-focused advocacy or DEI roles are on record.
