Robert Carlyle

Personal context

Summary

Robert Carlyle is a Scottish actor known for roles in Trainspotting, The Full Monty and Cracker, often playing volatile outsiders and working-class characters. He has said he looks for scripts with social worth and sees a role for himself in giving a voice to people who lack one. He has described The Full Monty as political in its depiction of hardship and austerity. Carlyle has said he takes little interest in party politics, though he voted SNP in 2007 because of the party’s anti-war position; no public statements on DEI, identity politics or organized activism are on record.
