Sarah Silverman

Personal context

Summary

Sarah Silverman is a comedian, writer, and actor known for provocative stand-up, The Sarah Silverman Program, and dramatic roles including I Smile Back. Her comedy often uses taboo subjects such as sex, religion, race, and politics, sometimes satirizing the language and assumptions people use around them. She has publicly supported reproductive rights, co-hosted a fundraiser for Texas reproductive health providers, and spoken at the 2016 Democratic National Convention in support of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton; she also praised the #MeToo movement while discussing sexual misconduct. In 2023, she left the Democratic Socialists of America over its response to Hamas’s attack on Israel, reflecting a public record that includes both liberal advocacy and criticism of parts of the left. No public record establishes a recurring DEI or representation campaign as a goal of her creative work.
