Personal context

Summary

Sylvester McCoy is a Scottish actor and comedian best known as the Seventh Doctor in Doctor Who and for playing Radagast in The Hobbit films. His work ranges from physical comedy to fantasy and science fiction, and he has described Doctor Who’s subtle politics as part of what drew him to the show. In 2018, he welcomed Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor; in 2021, he called his earlier objections “stupid sexism” and said he would welcome a person of colour in the role. In 2024, he again described Doctor Who as political. No public party campaigning, DEI affiliations, or sustained activism are on record.
