Tommy Chong

Personal context

Summary

Tommy Chong is a comedian, actor, musician and filmmaker best known as one half of Cheech & Chong, whose comedy and films helped define stoner comedy. Cannabis and counterculture recur throughout his work, and he has spent years advocating for marijuana legalization, including serving on NORML’s advisory board. He endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2016, citing Sanders’s support for a fair and humane immigration policy and a living wage. Chong has also criticized the history of racist policies; no public statements on DEI or sustained advocacy on gender or LGBTQ issues are on record.
