Winona Ryder

Personal context

Summary

Winona Ryder is an actor known for roles in Beetlejuice, Heathers, Little Women, Girl, Interrupted, and Stranger Things, often playing unconventional or misunderstood young women. She has said that Little Women stood out because stories about girls going through adolescence were rare, and has spoken about the shortage of roles for women as they age. In 1990, she voiced concern about environmental threats and joined Julia “Butterfly” Hill in her redwood tree-sit protest for six days. She has described her parents as left-wing, but no public record establishes sustained party campaigning or advocacy on identity politics or DEI.
