Yvette Nicole Brown

Personal context

Summary

Yvette Nicole Brown is an actor, writer, and host known for comedy roles including Shirley Bennett on Community and Helen Dubois on Drake & Josh. She has spoken repeatedly about the narrow range of roles offered to black women, avoiding parts she feels could reinforce stereotypes, and the need for more black writers and directors so television can better reflect people’s experiences. In 2024, she joined black Women in Entertainment for Kamala, a voter engagement and campaign support initiative for Kamala Harris. Her public record includes advocacy for racial representation in entertainment and campaign support, but no public affiliation with a broader activist organization is on record.
