2023 · Based on 1 season, 4 episodes through October 4, 2023 ·
David Beckham is a famous English football player who grew up in east London and rose through Manchester United. The series follows his move from a strict family home to the biggest clubs in England, Spain, and the United States. Beckham faces the anger that followed his 1998 World Cup red card, hard breaks with managers, and pressure on his marriage. The tone mixes warm family footage, football excitement, painful memories, and light jokes.
The series gives a large place to Beckham’s marriage to Victoria, their children, and the tabloid stories that followed them. It also shows his depression, death threats, and the old demand that men hide pain and keep working. The story treats family loyalty, personal discipline, friendship, and recovery as its main answers to those problems. Beckham’s business growth and his effort to bring major football attention to America complete the story.

Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story focuses on one athlete’s career, marriage, children, pressure, and recovery. It does not build its story around race, gender, queer identity, or a wider group identity.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The series shows harsh tabloids, fan abuse, strict fathers, and old ideas about male toughness as parts of Beckham’s past. It presents these events as personal history, not as a repeated modern attack on Western family, religion, or social institutions.

Creator track record context
Director Fisher Stevens has a strong environmental and left-leaning record. Producer Gary Neville has spoken against racism, migrant-worker abuse, and social division. Producer John Battsek has backed documentaries about race, LGBTQ subjects, and political causes. Other listed producers have little or no clear activist record, so this context is stronger than the show’s own woke content.
