2021–2022 · Based on 3 seasons through August 11, 2022 ·
DOTA: Dragon's Blood follows Davion, a Dragon Knight who hunts dragons after losing his family. Davion becomes linked to Slyrak, an ancient dragon, and joins Princess Mirana and her quiet guard Marci. The group faces Terrorblade, a demon who wants the souls of the great dragons. The story moves through kingdoms, elven lands, divine realms, and broken versions of reality, so the tone stays violent, dark, fast, and full of magic.
The clearest identity element is the Coedwig elves' polyamorous family life and Fymryn's past with three lovers. The show treats this as normal within the elf culture, but the subject is mostly limited to early world building and Fymryn's backstory. Women hold major roles as princesses, warriors, rulers, and goddesses, yet the plot presents those roles as part of its fantasy world rather than as a lesson about modern representation. Across all three seasons, the main themes remain loyalty, faith, revenge, family, sacrifice, fate, and the danger of absolute power.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for DOTA: Dragon's Blood.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Mirana, Luna, Marci, and Selemene are prominent women in the fantasy plot. The show does not present the voice cast or those roles as a diversity campaign, and the female roles fit its game-based fantasy world.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters discuss worship, war, loyalty, and power within the fantasy world. The dialogue does not use modern activist or left-wing political language.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The Coedwig elves live in family groups with more than one lover. Fymryn says that humans usually have only one lover, which makes the cultural difference clear. The show treats this culture as normal, and Fymryn remains important across the three seasons. The topic is limited to a small part of the story and does not drive the main fight against Terrorblade.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Selemene forces followers to worship her and harms people who refuse. The show treats this as the abuse of a fantasy goddess, not as a modern attack on Western institutions or social norms.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series adds or reshapes characters and lore from Dota 2, including Marci and a new story for Fymryn. Those changes serve the adaptation and are not shown as identity or DEI changes.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few small X accounts praised the show as non-woke or used it as a contrast to fantasy shows they called ruined by DEI. The posts had very little reach and did not claim a sustained agenda in the Netflix series. No boycott, review-bomb drive, or large right-leaning campaign was found.
10%
Creator track record context
Ashley Miller has mainstream genre credits and no known activist record in the cached context. Most other cached directors and writers also have little or no public activist history. Amy Chu's support for more female and Asian voices and Bryan Konietzko's social themes are limited context, and they do not match a clear activist message in this show.
