Harry & Meghan

Meghan’s mixed-race identity is a continuing part of her story, not a brief side point. The series links media abuse, palace treatment, and public expectations to her being black and white. The couple and guests also connect royal tradition with the history of empire and colonial rule. These themes return across several episodes, while the romance and family conflict remain the larger frame.

The show presents the monarchy as a rigid institution that protects its image before the people inside it. Harry says palace teams leaked stories and that his family chose the institution over the couple. Meghan describes pressure to follow royal rules and says the press and palace failed her when her mental health suffered. Historians also connect the monarchy and Commonwealth to empire, so the critique reaches beyond a private family dispute.

Right-leaning writers and commentators attacked the series as a self-pitying public-relations show and said it used race to shield the couple from criticism. Breitbart described the featured scholars as woke and asked whether the couple would play the race card. Megyn Kelly also called Meghan woke while attacking the Netflix project. The explicitly anti-woke part of the backlash was visible but smaller than the wider royal feud.
