Quiz is a three-part British drama about Charles Ingram, a former army major who enters Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001. His wife Diana and friend Tecwen Whittock are accused of using coughs to guide him toward the right answers. The story moves from the making of the hit game show to the Ingrams' home, the studio, and the criminal court. The tone is tense, funny, and sad, and it keeps asking whether the public really knows what happened.
Quiz treats truth as something that can be shaped by editing, repeated headlines, and the crowd's desire for a simple answer. It presents the Ingrams as loving parents who may be guilty, innocent, or somewhere between the two. The show questions the power of television, newspapers, police, and courts to turn a small scandal into a national drama. One brief political comparison links repeated public claims with the British government's claims about weapons in Iraq.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Quiz.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast portrays real people and institutions in a British early-2000s story. The show does not use a visible identity-based cast pattern or present casting as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Quiz has a short scene in which Charles compares repeated claims about the quiz case with the British government's claims about weapons in Iraq. Charles says that repeating a claim loudly and for long enough can make it seem true. The rest of the political talk stays tied to media pressure, the trial, and the scandal.
24%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story does not center race, sex, sexuality, gender roles, or another identity group. The main conflict concerns whether a quiz-show win involved cheating and whether the press and court judged the family fairly.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Quiz repeatedly questions ITV, the press, the police, and the court's handling of the scandal. The production team chooses which coughs to highlight and builds a public case around that edited story. The press and public punish the Ingrams before the verdict, while the trial itself becomes entertainment. The show criticizes media and justice systems, but it does not attack Christianity, family life, or capitalism as its main target.
46%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series retells the real Charles Ingram case without changing the race, sex, sexuality, or basic roles of the real people. Its changes concern timing, focus, and dramatic detail.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No such complaints were found. Reported complaints focused on guilt, fairness, accuracy, and the portrayal of Chris Tarrant.
0%
Creator track record context
James Graham's work often studies politics, media, and power, and Quiz uses those interests. Interviews frame the drama around truth, public opinion, and justice becoming entertainment. Stephen Frears has a classic left record, while the casting directors have worked on diverse projects, but no identity message is tied to this title. The other producers have little public activist record.
