2017–2020 · Based on 3 seasons through December 3, 2020 ·
Riviera follows Georgina, an American art expert who marries billionaire Constantine Clios. After his death in a yacht blast, she finds that his money came from crime, lies, and murder. She fights to protect herself and the Clios family on the French Riviera. The show mixes rich lifestyles, family drama, sex, betrayal, and crime. Seasons two and three expand the story into Georgina’s past and the stolen-art world.
The show gives repeated focus to powerful women who control families, money, and criminal plans. Adriana has a same-sex romance with Sophie, but the relationship remains a small part of the larger story. The show also presents many powerful men as violent, dishonest, or controlling. It has little direct political speech and does not build its plot around modern activist causes.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Riviera.
Woke representation / casting
The show places several women at the center of power, crime, and family control. Georgina, Irina, Cassandra, and Daphne often drive major choices. The international setting supports a mixed cast, so the casting does not clearly look like a diversity-first message.

Woke political dialogue
Not present in this title.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Adriana has a same-sex romance with Sophie Lombardi. The relationship is shown as a normal part of Adriana’s life, but it is not the main story. The show also repeats a theme of women taking control after men use power badly.
30%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show repeatedly presents wealthy men as violent, dishonest, controlling, or entitled. Female characters often resist those men and take control of money and family affairs. The story mainly attacks corrupt rich people and family crime, so its modern activist message remains limited.

Creator track record context
Neil Jordan has a strong identity-driven film history, especially through The Crying Game and Breakfast on Pluto. Sarah Harding directed episodes of Queer as Folk. Matt Evans and Liz Lewin have little public activist or identity-politics history. The creator context is stronger than the show’s direct political content.
