2023– · Based on 3 seasons through October 19, 2025 ·
Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France after he is separated from his friends in the United States. He tries to find a way home, but he agrees to protect Laurent, a boy whom a religious group believes may save humanity. Daryl faces walkers, dangerous walker experiments, armed groups, false prophets, and cruel rulers as he travels through France, England, and Spain. The show mixes bloody action with grief, faith, family, friendship, and quiet moments about finding a reason to keep living.
Most of the show follows survival, loyalty, loss, and the search for a safe home. The clearest identity-driven material arrives in Season 3, when Paz and Elena's lesbian love story becomes part of the fight against El Alcázar. That season also follows women who are taken as offerings, treated as property, and helped by a refugee group that fights to free them. These ideas are visible and repeated in the third season, but they remain side stories beside Daryl and Carol's journey.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The show uses French and Spanish actors for its local groups, and its main leads fit the story world. Women such as Isabelle, Genet, Carol, and Paz have major roles, but the show does not frame their casting as a diversity goal.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters talk about survival, faith, and control by armed groups, religious leaders, and a royal family. The show does not use modern activist language about race, gender, identity, capitalism, or DEI.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The show gives Paz and Elena a recurring lesbian love story in Season 3. Their past relationship helps explain Paz's effort to rescue Elena from El Alcázar. The season also follows women who are selected as offerings and a refugee group that helps them escape. These stories are visible and sympathetic, but they remain side plots beside Daryl and Carol's survival journey.
35%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Season 3 shows El Alcázar forcing young women into an offering and marriage system, and Season 1 shows armed and religious groups abusing power. The show treats these groups as story villains, but it does not connect them to modern critiques of patriarchy, capitalism, Christianity, race, or Western society.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Daryl, Carol, and the other returning characters keep their established identities. The new French and Spanish characters are original to the spin-off, and no established character or historical figure receives a woke identity change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few Reddit commenters directly called the show “too woke,” blamed feminist writing, and asked for the woke content to be removed. Another comment in a title discussion complained about “girl boss” or women-led roles in modern film. The posts are fringe and do not show a broad campaign. Most discussion focused on story quality, the France-to-Spain shift, and Isabelle's death.
10%
Creator track record context
Gale Anne Hurd has supported women's causes and gender-equity efforts. Coline Abert has made a documentary about a drag performer and drag events. Most other key creators have low or limited activist profiles, including Robert Kirkman, David Zabel, Norman Reedus, and Scott Gimple. This gives mild context but does not show that the series was built around an activist message.
