6 Days follows three people during the 1980 siege of the Iranian Embassy in London. Police negotiator Max Vernon tries to keep the gunmen talking while SAS soldier Rusty Firmin trains for a possible raid. BBC reporter Kate Adie works outside the building as the crisis unfolds on live television. The film has a tense, serious tone and moves between phone calls, military drills, news reports, and the final assault.
The film presents the gunmen’s claim that Arab people in southern Iran are being oppressed as part of the period’s political crisis. The British response centers on a police negotiator who wants a peaceful result and an SAS team prepared to use force. The reporter adds the pressure of live news coverage as millions watch the siege. The story focuses on negotiation, duty, fear, violence, and the cost of a rescue by force.
