Sarah is a young widow raising two children on a poor housing estate in Northern Ireland. Her son stopped speaking after he saw his father murdered, and the police have done little to help. When a frightened drug dealer hides stolen drugs in Sarah’s home, crime enters her small and strained family life. The tense thriller follows her search for the killer and her harsh fight to keep her children safe.
The film gives Sarah a clear arc from a fearful and worn-down mother to a violent and self-directed protector. Men repeatedly treat her as weak, available, or unworthy of help, while police officers dismiss her danger and her husband’s death. The story presents her revenge as a way to recover dignity and control after male violence and public failure. Motherhood, poverty, grief, and brutal crime remain as important as the film’s message about women taking power back.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for A Good Woman Is Hard to Find.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast fits the film’s Northern Irish setting, and no clear diversity-first pattern appears. Sarah’s lead role is a story choice, but the film does not frame the casting as an identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Several men make sexist remarks about Sarah’s body, money, and sexual behavior. Police officers also ask questions that blame or shame her when they respond to trouble at her home. These short exchanges build a clear gender-power message. The film does not stop for long activist speeches.
30%
Identity-driven story themes
Sarah’s main arc moves from a fearful widow to a woman who uses extreme violence to control her own life. The men around her repeatedly treat her as weak, available, or easy to silence. The story connects her revenge with dignity, self-definition, and the need to take women seriously. This gender-power message shapes the whole plot, although motherhood, grief, poverty, and crime remain central.
63%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film repeatedly shows police and other public workers failing Sarah when she asks for help. Officers dismiss her husband’s murder and later treat her as if she may be causing the trouble. The estate is shown as poor and abandoned, while men assume they can judge or control her. The story links this failure by authorities with its wider criticism of male power and social neglect.
50%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original crime story rather than a retelling of a known character or historical event. It makes no identity-based change to established canon.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One right-leaning review called the film “Woke Cinema” and “empowerment theater.” The review objected to the film’s patriarchy theme and to Sarah’s revenge arc as forced. The supplied X research found no anti-woke posts, and small Reddit discussions mostly praised Bolger or the thriller. The wider backlash record is thin.
18%
Creator track record context
The cached director score is 0 and shows no activist pattern. The cached writer score is 10 because of mild humanitarian and environmental comments, while one producer has a 20 for socially aware work. The wider team adds only weak context beyond this film’s own gender themes.
