Patrick “H” Hill joins a Los Angeles company that moves cash in armored trucks. He seems quiet and weak during his job test, but he suddenly kills a group of robbers with expert shooting. The company staff then wonder whether he is hiding a dangerous past. The story jumps through several time periods as H hunts the men who killed his son, and the film keeps a cold, bloody, revenge-focused tone.
The film puts most of its attention on H, the robbery crews, former soldiers, and the violent rules of the crime world. The modern Los Angeles setting includes Black, Latino, Asian, and white actors in supporting roles, but their backgrounds do not drive the plot. Women have small supporting parts, and the workplace talk includes crude insults about women, race, and gay people. The main ideas are grief, revenge, loyalty, greed, and the cost of choosing violence.
