At Eternity's Gate follows Vincent van Gogh during the last years of his life in Arles, Saint-Rémy, and Auvers-sur-Oise. Vincent paints fields, trees, and people while he struggles with poverty, fear, illness, and the pain of being misunderstood. His brother Theo tries to support him, while his friendship with Paul Gauguin turns warm, tense, and finally dangerous. The film is quiet, sad, and dreamlike, and it asks how an artist can keep working when the world does not understand him.
The film centers on art, nature, mental illness, friendship, faith, and death rather than modern identity politics. Vincent argues with a priest about God, beauty, and disturbing art, but the scene comes from his personal beliefs and the period setting. The story also shows a teacher, townspeople, and other adults mocking or rejecting his work, which supports its theme of an artist facing social judgment. Its main creative choice is to place viewers inside Vincent's mind and to present some disputed events, including the idea that he may have been shot by boys, but these choices do not create a modern activist message.

Creator track record context
Julian Schnabel has made some politically engaged work about human rights. Producer Jon Kilik has a stronger record of race-and-politics films. The other cached writers, casting director, and producers show little public DEI or activist pattern. This context is mild because the movie focuses on art, mental illness, nature, and faith.
