Tess travels to Detroit for a job interview and reaches a rental house late on a rainy night. She finds the house booked twice, with Keith, a stranger, already staying there. When she explores the basement, she finds hidden rooms and a danger that reaches back through decades. The film jumps between Tess, the house’s owner AJ, and past events, mixing sudden violence, dark jokes, and horror. Tess watches Keith for warning signs and tries to protect herself, but she also goes back to help people in danger. AJ is an actor accused of rape, and he tells a friend that the woman first said no before he kept pressuring her. An older man has held women captive and abused them for years, while police officers brush Tess off when she asks for help. These events make women’s safety and danger from men a main part of the story, while Tess’s choices shape who survives.
