The story keeps pushing chosen family as the fix for a bad bio dad the whole way through. The narrative centers on a young woman finding healing through a platonic surrogate father bond after her narcissistic biological father abandons her. Plus-size lead casting and authentic disability rep for a supporting character add visible representation emphasis. Director's history of feminist and lesbian shorts provides context but the film itself stays personal with no activist dialogue or systemic sermons.
