Butterfly Kisses follows Gavin York, a struggling wedding videographer in Maryland who wants to become a serious filmmaker. He finds tapes made by two film students who investigate a local legend called Peeping Tom, a figure who moves closer whenever someone blinks. Gavin hires a crew to help prove the tapes are real, but his search pulls him into the same danger and confusion as the students. The movie uses films within films, dark humor, and slow found-footage horror to show how obsession can damage a family and destroy a person’s grip on reality.
The movie’s main ideas concern truth, fame, artistic ambition, and the right way to use other people’s work. Gavin tries to turn the students’ work into his own success, while the crew questions his claims and his choices. The story mocks the need to prove a scary story to a doubtful audience and keeps asking whether any camera can show the full truth. Gavin’s obsession slowly costs him his family, his judgment, and his safety.
