Dark Crimes is a crime thriller drawn from a true Polish murder case. Jim Carrey plays detective Tadek, who digs into a cold case that seems tied to a novelist and a book. The story sits in Poland and follows a bleak police investigation. It turns on obsession, corruption, and grim underworld detail. The film is built as dark noir, not as a social lesson.
There is almost no woke content that audiences can see. The plot stays on murder, fiction that mirrors crime, and exploitation style thrills. A secret club and violence against women work as crime story material, not as progressive messaging. Mild notes of police friction and rich men abusing power fit standard thriller corruption. Critics more often called the film misogynistic and exploitative than progressive. The real focus is sordid noir, not identity politics.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Dark Crimes.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Cast is European for a Polish-set crime story. Carrey as Tadek is star casting with a Polish accent, not DEI casting. Supporting leads fit the setting. A female superior is ordinary police hierarchy, not representation-first casting.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Dialogue is grim noir about investigation, literary posturing, corruption, and sex-crime sordidness with no modern activist speech.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Core story is cold-case murder, fiction mirroring crime, obsession, and underworld sleaze framed as noir and exploitation, not identity-politics messaging.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
There are mild notes of police friction and possible official interference. Rich men use a secret club to abuse women. That reads as standard crime-thriller corruption and depravity. It is not a modern activist attack on Western institutions.
5%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. as an identity rewrite. Changes from the magazine true-crime source are thriller conventions and fictionalization.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No meaningful anti-woke or anti-DEI backlash found. Reaction targets quality, tone, misogyny claims, and exploitation instead.
0%
Creator track record context
Cached scores for key names sit low overall. Avranas, Grann, Brock, Ratner, and Soros land in a mild range. Most Polish producers and the editor score very low. None of this reads as a woke brand driving activist content in this film.
