Drishyam 2 follows Vijay Salgaonkar, a cable operator and movie lover who has become a theater owner in Goa. Seven years after his family hid the truth about a boy’s death, the police reopen the case. Vijay tries to keep his wife and two daughters safe while a senior police officer and the boy’s mother demand answers. The film has a slow, tense tone that grows into a crime mystery about family loyalty, fear, lies, and guilt.
Vijay uses his knowledge of movies to build a new story that may protect his family from arrest. His wife Nandini and daughter Anju carry much of the fear, shame, and stress left by the first crime. The film also shows gossip, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, police violence, and the pain of a mother who lost her son. These parts add danger and moral pressure, but the story stays focused on one family’s effort to survive and on whether love can excuse breaking the law.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Drishyam 2.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film uses Indian families and police in a modern Goa setting. The women have important roles, but the story does not frame their casting as a diversity or identity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on murder, evidence, family protection, and the law. The story does not use modern identity, DEI, or activist messages.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story follows a family hiding a killing and living with fear and guilt. Its main themes are loyalty, trauma, justice, and moral choice.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The police make harsh and unlawful moves, but this is part of the crime plot in Goa. The film does not turn the conflict into a modern attack on patriarchy, capitalism, Christianity, or Western culture.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The Hindi film changes some names, actors, language, and scene details from the Malayalam original. Those changes are ordinary remake choices, not identity-based changes to the story.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. News and social coverage show praise for the thriller rather than sustained complaints that it pushes woke ideas. The supplied X pass reports no anti-woke complaints, while right-leaning praise for the film as “not woke” is approval rather than backlash.

Creator track record context
Producer Ajit Andhare has backed women-led and socially themed films, which gives a small representation-focused signal around the production team. The director and writers have mainly made commercial thrillers and dramas, and the other listed creators have little public identity-focused history. The film itself does not use that background to push an activist message.
